Iron Fitting
Most iron fittings stop once the carry numbers line up. Ours keeps going until we know how each club behaves after it touches down, because a gapped set that can't hold a green isn't finished yet.
We Record Arrival, Not Just Yardage
Every swing in an iron session logs carry, peak height, and the angle each shot is falling at when it lands, club by club. A set can look perfectly gapped on carry alone and still have two or three clubs at the long end that skid through the back of any firm green.
Once we know where that happens in your set, the fix is usually one of three things: a stronger shaft profile that climbs higher, a small loft adjustment, or replacing a long iron with something that was never meant to hold a running shot in the first place.
The Variables Behind a Set That Actually Gaps
Lie Angle
Flat by even two degrees and the sole digs at the toe, pulling shots left of target for a right-handed player. We check dynamic lie under real impact, not the static number stamped on the hosel.
Length
Longer isn't automatically better. Extra length can raise swing speed slightly while lowering strike consistency enough to erase the gain entirely.
Shaft Profile
A shaft that launches a touch higher through the mid-irons buys back the landing angle a stronger modern loft otherwise gives away.
Loft Progression
We check the gap between every consecutive club, since a bag with one skipped or doubled gap wastes a slot that could be filled with a club you'd actually use.
Grip Size & Weight
Grip changes hand release the same way in irons as in a driver, and it's usually the cheapest adjustment on the whole build sheet.
Set Composition
Where irons stop and hybrids or fairway woods take over is a landing-angle decision as much as a distance one — covered in full during a fairway wood or hybrid fitting.

Nearly the same carry distance, but the second build stops fifteen feet sooner on the same firm green. That's the difference a properly matched shaft profile can make without changing loft at all.
